Root bots and apps

Root is a newer community platform with its own SDK. I ported ily to it from scratch in TypeScript, then started building apps that run inside Root itself.

ily for Root

Published on the Root store

The same ily, rewritten for Root: same prefix, same voice, same command names wherever Root allows. Root has no embeds, buttons or DMs for bots, so every feature was redesigned around plain messages, reactions and Root notifications.

What it does

  • Moderation: bans, mutes, jail, cases and a mod log
  • Raid protection: raid mode, account-age gates and a review queue for held joins
  • Automod: filters, slowmode and mutes enforced by the bot itself
  • Tickets and applications for staff and support
  • Community: giveaways, polls, reminders, starboard and suggestions
  • Engagement: levels, economy, quests, poker and word games

How it's built

TypeScript on Root's server SDK. Every message runs through guards, then the command, then watchers, so automod and mutes can stop a message before anything else sees it. An offline test harness boots the real bot against an in-memory fake Root community and plays through every feature, including a suite that tries known attacks like role climbing and link laundering.

sofi games

Published on the Root store

A multiplayer game hub that runs as an app inside Root. Members collect anime character cards, play party games together, and bet chips that carry over between games.

  • Anime cards: roll and claim from 2,000 popular characters, with wishlists
  • Party games: word bomb, skribbl, gartic phone and hangman
  • Board games: tic tac toe, and chess with clocks
  • Casino: blackjack, Texas hold'em, slots, plinko and roulette

How it's built

A React client and a TypeScript server talking over one generic action call, so adding a game needs no protocol change. Tests check that no game creates or loses chips outside its payouts, a per-community lock stops double-spending, and players only ever receive their own cards.

ily app

In development

A moderation dashboard that opens inside Root and works alongside ily for Root. Staff get a review queue for flagged messages, member reports, appeals, case history, tickets and an activity overview without typing a command.

Root doesn't let bots and apps talk to each other directly, so the two sync through a signed bridge I host on Vercel.
